HISTORIA

Grupo formado en Athens (Georgia, EEUU) en 1980 por Michael Stipe (4-1-60, voz), Mike Mills (17-12-58, bajo),  Bill Berry (31-7-58, Batería) y Peter Buck (6-12-56, guitarra).  R.E.M. son las iniciales de rapid eye movement, término fisiológico relacionado con un periodo del sueño. Serán los abanderados del nuevo rock americano, recuperando el sonido pop de los 70. Su primer single fue Radio free Europe. En 1988 los lectores de New musical express eligen 4 discos de REM entre los 100 mejores de todos los tiempos y la revista Rolling Stone les considera mejor banda rock de USA. Se separan en 2011.
